Anne Enochs is an artist originally from Jackson, MS, and based in Bartlett, TN for the last 30 years. These paintings are representative of a wide range of art she produced over many years. Recently widowed, she is downsizing and moving to an assisted living home, and wants to see her paintings go to homes where they will be loved and appreciated.

Since aspiring to be an artist from childhood, she studied art at the University of Alabama, earning a BA in art. She continued her art studies by attending workshops throughout the country and eventually partnered with a fellow artist to coordinate workshops in Jackson, bringing renowned artists there with whom she studied.

Along with selling in galleries and earning awards in many shows, she became a beloved art teacher, teaching hundreds of people including children, how to draw. She taught private classes in painting as well, thoroughly enjoying sharing a creative spark with her students. Inspired to share her knowledge, an instructional DVD was produced and sold, called Pastel Basics with Anne Enochs. Her home studio in Bartlett became an art hub, with weekly figure drawing groups, classes and private instruction. She was very active in the art community, as a founding member of the Professional Artists League of Mississippi, as well as being a former president and member of Artists’ Link in Memphis.

With sketchbook in hand, she drew people and ideas for paintings everywhere she went. People are her favorite subject, and she was commissioned to paint many portraits.

Plein air painting was also something she enjoyed, often painting at Shelby Farms. The light quality was the thing that hooked her and she loved trying to convey the nuanced color of sunlight and shadows that gave her paintings a vibrancy that made them sing. So many of her landscapes transport the viewer to the place, making them feel they are right there.

Her art is essentially about color, light and life, and she leaves a legacy of art that represents that beautifully.
